Conscious growth means aligning yourself with certain core principles which serve as growth accelerators.
When you live in alignment with them, you experience faster, more consistent progress, and deeper levels of fulfillment. When you fall out of alignment and violate these principles, you’ll usually feel like you’re not progressing, stagnant and life seems less fulfilling.
Here’s an example of how many of us live in stagnation:
Think about a tradition you uphold, maybe a holiday tradition or a societal regulation… something passed on for a long time. Ever stop to ask yourself WHY you do those things? Many would answer, “Because it’s always done it this way. That’s how I learned to do it.”
That is a stagnant, unconscious answer. As a result, we stop noticing whether that practice is useful for us or whether we’d prefer to do it another way.
Conscious growth is being open to revisiting things on an as-needed basis.
Change is the only thing that is guaranteed, and there are two ways we can respond to change:
- Adaptation: Unconsciously just “getting used” to things.
- Growth: Staying conscious and choosing how to respond.
Often, we don’t realize that we’re unconscious until we’re deep into adaptation, but we can wake up to CHOOSE WHAT WE WANT for ourselves and get back on the path of growth.
We can choose conscious growth or we can pull the wool over our eyes and let change happen to us.
