It is very helpful to temporarily make changes to our daily routines, that may open us up to seeing and feeling from new perspectives, and a deeper inquiry of our habits which are supporting our health and which are undermining it. By mobilizing metabolic wastes through a cleansing diet, exercise, and massage, and clearing out mental and emotional wastes through practices such as meditation and breathing exercises, our cleansing program will serve as a way to “jump-start” your own process of self-healing and determination. Each week we will identify opportunities and practices that will enhance the cleansing process. This experience is NOT an all or nothing plan, but rather an adaptation of principles that can be implemented for daily living and improved health and vitality.

A 60-Hour Ashtanga Yoga Immersion Course Fall 2016!
This training is designed for students who would like to delve deeper into the practice & philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga.
The course will provide Continuing Education credits accredited with YA for current RYTs.
The curriculum is structured in learning the proper technique of The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga as well as developing and/or deepening a Mysore Ashtanga practice.
*Please note this is NOT a certification course. Only R. Sharath Jois and the KPJAYI in Mysore India can grant an official Authroization/Certification to teach Ashtanga Yoga.
- The course will includes 10 Modules, which will commence September 2016 and conclude in January 2017.
- The modules will be held on Saturday’s from 12:30pm-6:30pm @ Balance Yoga in Huntington.
- The will be 2 sessions per module, respectively, 12:30-3:30pm & 3:30-6:30pm.
- In order to complete the course, participants are required to attend ALL the modules. If for any reason any coursework is missed, students will be given opportunities to fulfill the requirements on an as needed basis.
- Course work includes assignments as well as written quizzes.
$1550 to be paid as Installments:
A non-refundable $300 Deposit is due by Aug30th. • $625 is due on September 17th
$625 is due by November 19th. NO EXCEPTIONS.

- Learning traditional vinyasa counts for the Primary Series.
- Sanskrit: including proper pronunciation of asana; invocation and closing mantra; Vedic chanting
- Philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras; Applications of the ancient science of yoga in modern times.
- Asana Theory: learning principles of various postures and proper/suitable modifications
- Hands-on adjustment technique
- Functional anatomy as it pertains to yoga asana
- Pranayama and Meditation techniques will be explored
- Samyama: A quiet time devoted to independent self-study. This
will be the conclusion of each module, wherein contemplation, experimenting and reflecting on any material covered.

A mala (the Sanskrit name for ‘garland’) is a set of beads traditionally worn and used for meditation. Malas are typically made of 108 beads (108 being a sacred number in many Eastern cultures) and serve to keep count of the wearers affirmations by focusing their awareness and staying mindful in the present moment.
Explore the therapeutic energy by creating and practicing your own mala during a 2-hour workshop. Inspired by tradition, you will be guided through making your own mala and how to use it along with a vedic mantra (or you can use an affirmation of choice). As you create, you will have the opportunity to infuse your mala with the power of your intention! A variety of gemstones will be used and all the mala materials are provided – just bring yourself!!

Workshop 1 – FUNdamentals of Transitions
Transitioning in and out of postures in Ashtanga is as important, if not MORE important, than the posture itself. And yet, to practice with precision, these counted positions are also even more challenging!
This workshop will focus on moving from your center and moving effortlessly through the challenging but also FUN transitions of Ashtanga yoga – with a very special emphasis on chaturanga, of course!

Workshop 2 – Hip and Stable
Hips are central to so many yoga poses because the pelvic area that includes the hips, is where we harness most of our bandha power. And why this workshop emphasizes not only the opening of the largest joint in the body, but also a strong emphasis on keeping the pelvis stable, through a combination of standing and seated postures. You will gain a greater understanding of your hips and increase your range of motion in all directions and include asana work in Baddha Konasana, Marichasanas, Supta Kurmasana, Legs Behind Head postures and Lotus. Don’t be intimidated by the names of postures! We ALL use our hips to stand, sit, walk etc… Gaining more access in the hips and improving range of motion is for everyone!!

Workshop 3 – A BackSTRONG Workshop
If you’ve never experienced pain in back bending – consider yourself lucky. Because most of us from the very bendy to the NOT very bendy have found ourselves at our breaking point – though figuratively and thankfully, not literally! Because back bending is not really as much about being bendy as it is about lengthening the backside of the body in exactly the places we feel stuck and in pain. There are lots of elements at play here: the openness and strength of our shoulders, hips and legs as well as the very proportions we were born with.
Gain the courage and confidence to begin dropping back into a place unknown – with feet firmly planted and the ability to lift out of the painful spots many students encounter.

These classes are small and friendly so don’t be shy, come along and join our weekend of Mysore self practice classes with international teacher Peg Mulqueen.
Here’s what to expect
- We’re limiting each class to a small group of students so you’ll get lots of individual attention with all the group energy of a conventional class.
- Time to get to know Peg and for her to get to know you and your practice inside out. By the end of the week you’ll be much clearer on what you should be focusing on and have some techniques to help you work on challenging areas of the practice.
- In a Mysore Self Practice Class you each practice at your own pace without being guided through each pose by the teacher – eek! That means it’s not a led, guided or counted class where everyone is doing the same pose at the same time. The amount of attention, the discipline and the dedication of practicing daily will help you develop a deeper connection between teacher, student, and this amazing practice. That’s why we ask you to commit to both, Saturday & Sunday Mysore practice days…
